Black Historic Sites in Conversation: The Louis Armstrong House Museum

Join us to learn all about The Louis Armstrong House Museum!

Louis Armstrong was an American trumpeter and vocalist who shaped early jazz in the 1920s and remains to be one of the world's most famous jazz musicians. In 1943, he and his wife, Lucille Armstrong, purchased and settled in a modest house in Corona, Queens, where they lived for the remainder of their lives. Following Louis' passing in 1971, Lucille dedicated her life to community activism, education and the preservation of Louis' legacy. Today, the Louis Armstrong House Museum & Archives continue to offer guided tours and programming to the public, with a new Center opening across the historic house to expand on its education efforts based on the Armstrong values of Artistic Excellence, Education and Community.

The Louis Armstrong House Museum (LAHM) sustains and promotes the cultural, historical, and humanitarian legacy of Louis Armstrong by preserving and interpreting Armstrong’s house and grounds, collecting and sharing archival materials that document Armstrong’s life and legacy, developing programs for the public that educate and inspire, and engaging with contemporary artists to create performances and new works.
