The Lewis Latimer House is a historic house museum situated in Flushing, New York. The museum is dedicated to raising awareness about the fascinating life of Lewis Howard Latimer, an African American inventor, electrical pioneer, artist, and much more! At the museum, you can learn about Latimer’s life and engage in local community events. Furthermore, we offer virtual STEAM education opportunities for students of all ages! Hours
The Museum is open to the public at the following hours:
11am-5pm on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
The Museum will be open during regular hours around Christmas and New Year.
K-12 groups by appointments on Wednesdays-Fridays.
Directions
By Car – Take Exit 14 from Northern Blvd / Whitestone Expressway. Turn right onto 137th Street. The museum and parking lot entrance will be on the left. Limited parking spaces are available in the museum lot.
By Subway – Take the 7 Train to Flushing- Main St. Exit via Main St. & Roosevelt Ave at SE corner. From there, you can get to the museum by foot or by bus.
By LIRR - Take the train to Flushing Main Street Station. From there, you can get to the museum by foot or by bus.
By Foot (approximately 15 minutes) - Start on Main Street. Take a right onto Northern Blvd, followed by a slight left onto Linden Pl. Continue right back onto Northern Blvd, followed by a left onto Leavitt Street. The museum will be on your left.
By Bus (approximately 10 minutes) - From Main Street, take the Q25 bus (College Point 5 Ave) or Q34 bus (Whitestone 149 St). Exit at Linden Place & 35th Ave. Walk one block east and make a left onto Leavitt St. The museum will be on your left.
Admission
Pay-as-you-wish with a suggested donation of $5 for individual visitors.
Groups of 6 and above pay an admission of $5 per person and must schedule in advance for guided tours.
Accessibility
The museum is ADA compliant and fully accessible for wheelchairs. Trained educator or docent on-site during open hours to answer to and assist with visitors’ special needs. Service animals are welcome in the space.
