How many similarities can we find between acid reactions and our own emotional responses? Join our self awareness science workshop!
When mixing baking soda and vinegar, two chemical reactions are generated, producing sodium acetate, water, and carbon dioxide gas, then breaking it down. The quantity of the vinegar and baking soda determines the amount of gas and salt that will be released. These reactions occur because baking soda is a basic compound and vinegar is an acidic diluted solution, when mixed together an acid-base reaction is formed, then a decomposition reaction takes place.
Think of our bodies as the bottles or containers for emotion. Baking soda can represent day-to-day life experiences in our environments and the vinegar can represent our downfalls and uphills. By being socially and emotionally aware, it becomes easier to manage your own internal reactions. How do we increase our good feelings and decrease our bad feelings? Incorporating intentional wellness practices (art, yoga, stress reducers) into our everyday lives can create a routine for diminishing the emotional reactions that don’t make us feel good.
Families will test out household items (baking soda, vinegar, mentos, coca cola) to see how acid reactions are impacted when ingredients are downsized or increased. This workshop will speak to a bigger topic about emotional triggers and self care.
Participants will learn ways to create calmer emotional responses within themselves (yoga, wellness ideas, stress balls, etc) to diminish stress, anger and anxiety.
