STEAM Workshop: Masking Tape Sculptures

  • Lewis Latimer House Museum 34-41 137th Street Queens, NY, 11354 United States (map)

Join us for an interactive make-your-own masking tape sculpture workshop, where you can learn the basic techniques of the craft while joining other participants to co-create sculptures of Lewis Latimer, to honor his artistic talent in the craft of patent drawing that complimented his scientific work.

In this outdoor workshop, our teaching artist Gregory Valentine will demonstrate how to correctly twist masking tape to the desired shape, what the best paint and proper permanent sealing techniques for future projects are, among many wonders of masking tape as a medium. Attendees will gain a working knowledge of how to structure and design beautiful art with masking tape and will keep all their sculptures!
