Halloween Tinker Festival: Shadow Puppet Workshop

Join us for an evening of shadow puppetry at Lewis Latimer House Museum!

Visitors will come by in the evening to make shadow puppets on the wall of the Latimer House. Using brads, paper, and wire, we will learn how to create an articulated, or jointed puppet with a distinctive silhouette. Our puppets will need a body, a head, arms, and maybe even legs! We will also need to add some wire to the end to allow us to control the body parts of our puppet.

Once our puppet is complete, we will cast a shadow and tell a story. Using the way shadows work, we can use a few techniques, like hiding things, making things get bigger or smaller, or even create interesting patterns of light. We can use these in combination with storytelling techniques that we can learn to use all of our puppets to tell a scary Halloween story, or a sweet Halloween story!
